Dialing Tips for K12 Videoconferencing
This site is a collaboration of educational service agencies and school districts highly involved in collaborative videoconferences that require dialing each other outside of our networks. It is an attempt to collect knowledge about various dialing scenarios existing in the videoconferencing world.
In the spring of 2008, we decided collectively to start documenting the challenges and solutions to dialing problems (see GDS Dialing, Dialing Insanity, Dialing Insanity Here to Stay, Problems in K12 Dialing, etc.) caused by varying vendor alternatives to IP address dialing.
Our assumptions with this project include the following:
- Curriculum videoconferencing is an effective and desirable use of videoconferencing.
- This use of videoconferencing means that we need to dial schools on different networks.
- Not everyone is using a gatekeeper in their installation.
- Most of us aren't willing to neighbor to each other's gatekeepers as the solution for dialing. There are too many little separate networks in K12.
